MANILA, 26 March 2022 — Commissioner Rachel Anne S. Herrera of the Climate Change Commission (CCC) is one of the recipients of 2022 Wind Vane Award conferred by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on March 23, during PAGASA’s 157th anniversary and the observance of the 157th National and 72nd World Meteorological Day.
The Wind Vane Award is given to individuals, local governments, and organizations who have greatly contributed and supported the hydrometeorological bureau in its efforts to reduce climate and disaster risks and provide timely weather forecast information and advisories to the general public.
Commissioner Herrera, the sole female awardee, was recognized for her support in the country’s first Green Climate Fund (GCF) project on the establishment of a multi-hazard impact-based forecasting and early warning system (MH-IBF-EWS), which was approved in 2019 and was granted $10 million US dollars to modernize the country’s early warning systems to deliver actionable and timely forecasts and warnings down to “last mile” communities.
