A. Inaugural NPTE Forum: Linking Science, Policy and Practice, 18 September 2017

The first NPTE forum was inaugurated on 18 September 2017 at SMX Convention Center, Pasay City in partnership with the Oscar M. Lopez (OML) Center. Invited experts discussed what being a signatory to the Paris Agreement entails -- particularly, on understanding the climate goal of 1.5-degrees and our pursuit of attaining climate justice.

B. 2nd NPTE Forum: “Strengthening Multi-Hazard Early Warning Systems (MHEWS) and Services in the Philippines”, 05 December 2017

The second NPTE Forum, held on 05 December 2017 at Sofitel Philippine Plaza is a partnership with the National Resilience Council, an organization that enables the coordination between the government and the private sector on building a disaster-resilient country. Themed “Strengthening Multi-Hazard Early Warning Systems (MHEWS) and Services in the Philippines”, the said forum highlighted MHEWS as a course to effectively deal with risk and uncertainties to increase communities’ resilience.

C.3rd NPTE Forum: Water Security in the midst of Climate Change, 03 April 2018

The first leg for 2018 themed “Water Security in the midst of Climate Change” started in Ilocos region in convergence to the Water Summit conducted by the Provincial Governor’s Office. The forum was participated by 200 people mostly coming from the host institution - the Mariano Marcos State University. Among the participants were students from local universities and state colleges and local government officials. The forum involved discussions on the science, policy, and practice aspect of the central theme ‘water security’.

D.4th NPTE Forum: Building the Resilience of Coastal Communities and Ecosystems to Climate Change, 08 May 2018

The 4th NPTE Forum was conducted in Visayas region, specifically at the University of the Philippines Visayas – Tacloban College. The aim of the forum was to build more resilient communities by communicating the importance of climate and disaster science in crafting plans and policies and sharing the practice of building scenarios and contextualizing interventions (best fit) for sectors and areas most vulnerable to impacts of climate change.

E.5th NPTE Forum: Renewable Energy and Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation for Sustainable Development, 24 July 2018

The energy sector as a contributor to the national greenhouse gas emission and likewise a key factor in decarbonization. Hence, the NPTE focused on energy as its central theme for the 5th forum which was held in Mindanao region specifically at Ateneo de Davao University. The aim of the forum was to develop and provide deeper understanding on the significance of utilizing and investing more on renewable sources of energy in order to lower GHG emissions, thus, mitigating the negative impacts of climate change.

F. 6th NPTE Forum: Mangroves, Marshes and Sea grasses: The Role of Blue Carbon in Addressing Climate Change, 10 December 2018

The last forum for 2018 was held in San Vicente, Palawan, in partnership with the Palawan State University – San Vicente Campus, with the focus on coastal and marine ecosystems in relation to climate change. The forum engaged more than 100 participants from the academe, local government units, regional government agencies, and non-government organizations in discussing current initiatives/ policies, science and practices involving blue carbon.
