MANILA, 26 June 2021 - PNoy, as many called him, was an ally of the climate movement. Together with French President François Hollande, he spearheaded the Manila Call to Action on Climate Change in 2015 to call on all nations to work collectively and swiftly to fight climate change. Later that year at the 21st Conference of Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change or COP21, he urged fellow world leaders to adopt the Paris Agreement as a testament of global solidarity and as a fair and legally binding treaty to stop global warming and climate change.

Under his leadership, the Philippines committed to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 70% by 2030 with its Intended Nationally Determined Contributions through the support of developed countries.  PNoy also signed into law Republic Act 10174 creating the People’s Survival Fund, which seeks to allocate annually P1 billion pesos for the provision of grants for climate change adaptation and resilience-building projects of local communities.

The CCC expresses its deepest sympathies to the Aquino family.
